University of Oklahoma head wrestling coach Jack Spates announced the hiring of Sammie Henson as head assistant coach Tuesday. Henson joins the Sooner staff with impeccable credentials both as a coach and a wrestler. The St. Charles, Mo., product was crowned world champion in 1998 wrestling for team USA in Tehran, Iran, earned an Olympic silver medal at the Sydney games in 2000 and was a world bronze medalist in 2006 at the age of 36. The accomplishments make him one of just a handful of wrestlers in USA History to have garnered three world medals.

University of Oklahoma head wrestling coach Jack Spates recently wrapped up the 2009-10 recruiting class, signing five Intermat Top 100 recruits, including two in the top 20. The 10-member class also included two that ranked among the top 15 nationally in their respective weight classes. Collectively, the future Sooners combined to win 24 state championships, spanning seven states across the country. Additionally, two were crowned champions at High School Nationals and three more placed in the top six.
